Salads and Such...
GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS
On today’s podcast I talked with salad-fan, Alex Knighten from Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ, about… SALAD! Alex is a vegetarian herself, so she’s hip to the scene. Me? I’m not exactly known for eating salad, but I had one at Huli Sue’s BBQ & Grill recently that has me wanting more, so I scheduled a series of interviews with people who know more than me! FISH TACO SALAD
Paddy and I went on another Asheville Food Tours lunch junket recently, to one of our great tour partners, Huli Sue's BBQ and Grill, where we split some of their outstanding crispy ribs, and — hold onto your hats — we ordered a couple salads! Mine was a blackened fish taco salad, with “rainbow ranch” slaw (happy Pride Month, Y’all!), avocado, salsa, beans, corn & tortilla chips. So crispy, crunchy, and tasty AF! I loved it!!! Paddy raved about his smokehouse salad too, which he topped with pork. We were both very very happy with our choices!

The S&W Market is hosting a one-year anniversary celebration on Saturday, June 11th. It'll be an all-day affair (11:30am - 10:00pm) with specials and giveaways from all the vendors. Here are a few specifics from the vendors I've heard from thus far: Highland Brewing will have live music on the mezzanine (Asheville 8 String Collective) from 7pm-9pm.
Circa 29 (the speakeasy on the lower level) will be open with a full bar available from 5pm-8pm, with free glass of champagne for the first 20 guests.
Bun Intended will be running the following specials: Fried Chicken Bao with green papaya, pickles, and dragon mayo. Thai donuts with pandan custard and sweetened condensed milk.
Farm Dogs will be running the following specials: Hickory Nut Gap Hot Dog topped with local peach slaw on Geraldines bakery bun. Carolina Kettle Chip Pie topped with Hickory Nut Gap beef cheek chili, shredded Tillamook cheese, sour cream, and fresh jalapeños. Blunt warm pretzel knots served with lusty monk mustard. Three flavors of seasonal lemonade. One special flavor of rice crispy treat, tbd.

My mom & I went to Sawhorse for breakfast/lunch today, and boy howdy, it was sooooo gooooood! We got some fresh strawberries with ricotta & maple syrup to start with, which was really yummy! My mom got the apple salad and really liked it, but she admitted that she was envious of my mushroom toast, which was OUTSTANDING! Gah! So savory & flavorful! I gave my mom some, and she’s already making plans to go back to get it for herself. It’s a superstar dish, y’all! Order it.
