GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS…
I hope you’re having a great weekend so far! I did some super-fun food tours this week. On Sunday I led a family of five on a private food tour, on Tuesday I led one of my “THC Tours” of dispensaries & restaurants, and on Wednesday I did my “Night Tour.” I had a lot of locals on my tours this week, which always makes me happy! Everyone always seems to really love the food tours, and I got some rave reviews on Facebook, so the whole thing is pretty dang gratifying. Please sign-up for a tour with me, or give a gift certificate for a tour to someone you love.
THE RECOMMEND
Today my recommendation is that you got out, see old friends, and eat them. And by “old friends,” I mean, your most favorite foods. The world has been so effed up for so long, I think we all need the comfort of the foods we truly love. For example… I had not been to Cúrate for over a year. SO SAD! I am a huge fan, but I’m also very terrible at making reservations, and with their hours severely clipped these days, I had simply not had the opportunity to dine in spontaneously. Then one day, I was already downtown, wrapping-up a food tour, when Dawn texted me and said she was sitting at the bar at Cúrate, with an empty seat next to her.
“Alrighty, folks, that’s the end of the tour! See ya later!!!” Zoooom!
Dawn had already ordered two small dishes for us, and she very wisely selected two of our OG favorites: Migas (top) and lamb skewers (bottom).
Above: The migas consist of fried bread crumbs with raisins, crispy Brussels sprout leaves, cauliflower, and a delicious yogurt-celery foam topped with a little citrus zest. It was among the very first things that Dawn and I ever ate at Cúrate when they first opened in 2011 (Happy 10 Year Anniversary, Cúrate!), and it’s every bit the delicious combination of flavors and textures as it was back then. Super. High. Recommends.
Below: Likewise, the lamb skewers were one of the very first things we ever ordered at Cúrate, and they have been one of my all-time favorites things in downtown Asheville ever since. A decade-long love affair with some meat on a stick is kinda notable in my opinion. I’ve had relationships with human people that didn’t last as long. They come with a very tasty sauce & pickles. The lamb skewers, not the human people. Hey, we might still be friends if those people had come with pickles and sauce.
So, yeah, go eat some old friends, y’all. It’ll make you feel better, at least for a little while, and these days, that might be all we can ask for!
Please shout-out your favorite foods in the comments.
