GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS…

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2022! I personally love the symbolism of a brand new year, even though I am aware that the dates on the calendar are totally made up and have nothing to do with anything in the face of the cold, vast, heartless universe. But that’s the nature of symbolism, I guess: Attaching meaning where there is none. Speaking of that, have you made your Lucky Lemon Pig for the new year yet?

LUCKY LEMON PIG

Out with the old, in with the new! Last year’s Lucky Lemon Pig is all dried-up & all the luck has done run out, but our new Lucky Lemon Pig is so chock-full-o’ good luck that it’s nearly twice the size of last year’s little piggy. Bring the luck, Y’all!

Easy to make! All you need is a sharp knife, a lemon, two toothpicks snapped in half, a twisty-tie, a quarter, and a Sharpie.

TOUR FOOD

I can’t even tell ya how grateful I am to the Restaurant Partners who make our food tours at Asheville Food Tours so amazing. Last week I stopped into Nani’s Rotisserie Chicken, Session Cafe, Zambra, Botanist & Barrel, Asheville Hemp Farms, Twisted Laurel (pictured), Manicomio, Ukiah, Storm & Bodega by Cúrate with my tours, and the other other guides at Asheville Food Tours went to even more! I’d also say that about 80% of the patrons on my tours last week were locals! I love it when locals take my tours, they almost always tell me that we went places they’d never been, or hadn’t been in forever, and that they learned things they didn’t know!

This amazing little steak ‘n’ taters from Twisted Laurel was a big hit with my tour patrons.

THE RECOMMEND

I know that I tend to hit-up the same places over-and-over again, and as I result, I end up recommending them repeatedly as well. I live near downtown & walk to most of the restaurants I visit, which are also some of the best restaurants in the area, so I’m a frequent flyer at those excellent venues, not the least of which is Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse! I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I can’t recommend the Chicken Karaage highly enough! They are so dang good that I burn my mouth on them literally every time, because I just can’t fucking wait for them to cool down before I start shoving them into my mouth. They are basically battered chicken nuggets, deep-fried to perfection & served with two excellent sauces that go great together. I could eat — and recommend — them all day, every day!
