FIRST THIS…
It kinda looks like we’re heading right back into another mask mandate situation. Here’s a link to the latest recommendations from the CDC, as well as a link to a vaccine finder.
POST PUNK
So, how did my Punk Rock Hot Dogs throw down go? Was it fun? Was it successful? WHO WON?!?
First of all, thanks for asking. It went great! It was hella fun! And we raised over $4,000 for repairs to the beautiful and historic Asheville Masonic Temple, so yes, hooray, I’d call that a success! As for winners…
Chef Eric Morris of Cultura won the Judge’s Choice award with his “Hoctodog” monstrosity.
Chef Chris Cox from The Malvern teamed up with Foothills Local Meats and The Barksdale to take the People’s Choice award home with their “Burger Boi” hot dog.
Bear’s BBQ came in 2nd with the Judges for their 100% functional (and delicious) hot dog pipe, complete with mini Bic lighter, pipe stem, and a nug of Delta 8 for the Judges to smoke! (which they did)
And finally, Zack Neel aka Zack of All Trades representing Farms Dogs took 3rd place with the Judges and 2nd place with the People for his delicious “Underdog.”
I can personally attest to the fact that ALLL the dogs were extremely creative and very very tasty! There were no turds, no clunkers, no middle of the road bullshit hot dogs. And yes, of course I ate them all. Who do you think you’re talking to?
If you wanna read and see more words and pictures about PunkRock Hot Dogs 2021, you can look at Stu Helm: Food Fan, or Ashvegas, or you can comb through my Facebook Feed. Might wanna smoke something first.
NEXT TIME?
Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun at the Punk Rock Hot Dogs event, and there was plenty of talk about “next time.”
Now… I just told all y’all in my last email newsletter that I don’t wanna produce events anymore, but dang it… it sure is nice when they come off real good, and it’s admittedly hard to retire from the Octagon when you just scored an impressive knock-out win.
The truth is, I frickin’ love to create events, and I still wanna brand them & host them, and even get paid and have fun if that’s at all possible! ;) I just hate stressing out for 3 months leading up to them, and then stressing out even more on the day of the event. Not even kidding, Y’all. Stress is my enemy. I hate it. If not for Shay Brown and her crew on Hot Dog day, I’d have been a total wreck!
And then there’s annual Food Fan Awards Live Ceremony, but that’s produced almost entirely by Shay Brown Events from top to bottom, so it’s less stressful for little ol’ me. Right? The hardest part every year is picking the winners, and then writing about them for Ashvegas. But that’s 6 months away! And I’ve already got a jump start on the graphics. So no stress! No stressssssss…
As far as another PunkRock Hot Dogs goes… wehhhlllll… we’ll just have to see about that. I’m pretty sure I made Dawn promise to “kick me in the dick” if I ever said I was gonna produce another one. And I’m pretty sure she’d do it.
THE FOOD FEED ON ASHVEGAS
🔥NEW!🔥 I'm still catching up with my Food Feed posts on Ashvegas, so I made three in two weeks…
RECOMMEND
My mom and I went to Well Bred Bakery in Biltmore Village and for some reason they were out of croissants, so we couldn’t get the chicken salad sandwiches we came for, so I was like, “fuck it,” and just got a ball of the chicken salad, and then my mom got a ball of the curry chicken salad, and it was two balls of carb free awesome. Don’t get me wrong, the next time I go, if they have croissants, I’m right back on the carb wagon, but I know some of y’all try to avoid carbs all together, plus we’re all on a mission to eat every chicken salad in town right? So, I recommend either or both of these balls of chicken salad from Well Bred Bakery, in Weaverville, Biltmore Village or the brand new location in the Grove Arcade, which I haven’t even been to yet, but hope to visit soon!
