GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS

Remember a couple of months ago when I was saying that I was gonna change the name of this newsletter from “Good Morning, Friends…” to something less… insipid? LOL Yeah, well, that didn’t happen, and now it seems pointless, so, even though I’m writing this in the middle of the afternoon, and who knows when I’ll send it, or when you’ll read it, it’s going out under the name Good Morning, Friends… just like it always does, and probably always will. Please enjoy.

ON THE PODCAST

I’ve already shared some words and pictures with you about the lunch that Luis from Asheville Multicultural (née Descubre Asheville) and I talk about on the podcast above, but just to reiterate: IT RULED!!! I really like Thai Pearl Asheville, I recommend it 100%! Chef May is awesome, and I appreciate Luis for bringing me there the other day for a wild tasting, an action packed eating interview, and some fun coincidental encounters, all of which he and I talk about on the podcast above!

PUNK ROCK HOT DOGS 2022 UPDATE

I’ve been locking in the contenders for the craziest, most effed-up, and exciting food competition of the year: Punk Rock Hot Dogs 2022 ! So far, we have four rockin’ dog-slingers on board, and we will be topping out at 10 competitors total again this year, with ten judges, plus VIP tickets, and a People’s Choice award! Here are our first two Glizzy Gladiators, both are repeat offenders from last time around...

BEAR’S SMOKEHOUSE BBQ

Y'all, might remember that last year that Bear's Smokehouse BBQ made a fully functional hot dog weed pipe, and even provided each judge with a lighter and a nug of Delta 8! I can’t wait to see what they come up with this year!

STORM RHUM BAR & BISTRO

Hell yes! Storm Rhum Bar and Bistro brought the "I don't care" attitude last year, with their (insanely delicious) Japanese takis covered dogs. How they gonna fare this year, at the all-Goth competition? We shall see!

As usual, I am doing this event with Shay Brown Events at the Asheville Masonic Temple, because they rule! It’s happening on July 30th, so mark your calendars, tickets will go on sale soon!

THE RECOMMEND

Did you hear that Chef Katie Button has been nominated for yet another James beard award? I really hope she gets it this time! She very much deserves it in my humble opinion, not least of which, for bringing La Bodega by Cúrate to the mountains of western North Carolina! If you haven’t been, you gotta go. It’s right on South Lexington Ave downtown, and it is the cutest little restaurant / shop / cafe / patisserie / burger flippin’, sandwich makin’, wine tasting joint in Asheville.

I recommend the whole experience very highly, I’ve never had anything there I didn’t love, and for the sake of this newsletter, I will particularly recommend the croissant bread pudding pictured above. So moist. So dense. So yummy. So go get some.
