Good Morning, Friends!

Braised Meat & Brownies

Good Morning, Friends…

I hope you had a good weekend! I took Sunday off from posting anything anywhere, except a little bit of artwork from my fantasy novel, Hendra’s World, which I shared to Facebook, and have included here as well.

Since I didn’t post it yesterday, I’ve shared the hour-long Asheville Food Fans podcast with you today. It features myself, plus Rick Crelia (world’s greatest eater), as well as Meg Chamberlain from Fermenti, who came onto talk about the upcoming WNC Fermenting Festival, and Micah Molinari who came onto do the food news with me!

GOOD NEWS: After recording this episode, I got a new mic, so my podcast audio should improve greatly from now on.

WHAT’S FOR LUNCH?

I have no clue whatI’m eating for lunch today. Leave me your suggestions in the comments section and if I follow your advice, I’ll send you a piece of cake from Old Europe via KickbackAVL.

THE RECOMMEND

Last night I ordered food from Storm Rhum Bar for delivery via KickbackAVL, and boy howdy was it ever delicious! I got the Beet and Apple Salad, which consisted of
radicchio, pickled apple, roasted beets, squash, angostura vinaigrette, graham cracker. herbed goat cheese. It was crunchy and chewy and had a great mixture of sweetness from the apple and squash, & slight bitterness because of the radicchio. Great salad, I recommend it BUT , the big recommend is for the Braised Brisket in ginger turmeric broth, with pickled onions, fried pinto beans, roasted mushrooms, braised greens, and parsnip chips. It was INCREDIBLE! The brisket fell apart like a Sunday pot roast, and subtle curry flavor of the turmeric broth was divine.

The greens were perfectly cooked to tenderness, without breaking down into mush, the combinations of everything together — including some radicchio salad — on my fork was just right, and very satisfying. Fall is here, and this is a perfect Autumnal plate of food. I recommend both the braised brisket and the apple beet salad for a flavorful, comforting, and fulfilling meal! It has the things I always appreciate in a dish: Something familiar and something different.

HENDRA’S WORLD

As I mentioned, I’ve been working on a fantasy novel called Hendra’s World. The Brownies in Hendra’s World play a large part (for such small people!) and two of the Brownie characters are featured in this (unfinished) illustration. There are bound to be a TON of typos in this draft, which I’ll clean up later. I haven’t posted any new chapters in a while, but I’ve got lots of new writing that I’ll share with y’all soon. In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy the artwork, and you take a look at the first chapters HERE.
