GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS
How ya doin’? Good? Good. I’m good too. I’m judging a heavy metal chili cook off at The Odditorium tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 13th). It’s a Pro/Am competition, which is a rare thing in this town. Should we do more? Should we do more food competitions in general? We haven’t had a Wing War or a Battle of the Burger in years. I’m helping Luis Carlos from Descubre Asheville organize a taco competition for March, and I’ve got another Punk Rock Hot Dogs competition scheduled for next July, but what about mac ‘n’ cheese, pimento cheese, fried chicken, Phillys, pizza, doughnuts, and the above mentioned burgers and wings? We haven’t had a throw-down for any of those in a long-ass muhfuckin’ time. I’m not volunteering myself to organize any of those things, but I will be happy to consult with anyone who is organizing a food competition, and I’m happy to judge, of course. I’ll let you know how this Chili thing shakes out.
Live music from a Van Halen and Twisted Sister cover band. DJ Hurley will be spinning the glam.
MEETING WITH JOSH REMILLARD
I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with US Congressional candidate Josh Remillard and his wife Rhiannon this week. I invited them to dinner at Twisted Laurel and we had an AWESOME meal. I chose Twisted because I didn’t wanna go some place too fancy, or too funky, and Twisted fits that description perfectly. Also, it’s not for nothin’ that it won my dang Restaurant of the Year award for 2020. The food is frickin’ gooood! Josh got the Salmon, Rhiannon got the steak Dianne, and I got the short ribs (pictured). We also shared some Buffalo “wings.” (Go get ‘em to find out why wings is in quotes, and it’s not because they’re vegan).
The food was spectacular and there were nothing but clean plates left behind. The short ribs fell apart like butter, and were soooooo tasty, moist, and delicious. The sauce, grits and roasted carrots it came with were all perfectly cooked & seasoned. It had been a while since’t I ate dinner at Twisted Laurel (I’m usually there for lunch or with Food Tours) and these entrees were just right, and people-pleasers for sure! I am a person, and I was pleased.
The conversation with Josh and Rhiannon was also excellent! He’s running for the new congressional seat created by the recently redrawn 14th District, which encompasses most of Western North Carolina now, and had been the 11th District for 20 years, so that’s a little confusing. Here’s the new district map, just in case you’re wondering which District you live in.
Here’s a link to JOSH REMILLARD FOR CONGRESS. I would encourage you to check out his sight, contact his team, donate and volunteer if you can.

From our good friends at Foothills Meats..
Foothills Meats to Give Away 100 Free Hotdogs
We really love hotdogs. That's why we're obsessive about making them the best they can be. We've spent over 8 years perfecting our secret recipe. After some tweaking this fall, we're proud to announce we've made our hotdogs even better. Why? Because we want Foothills hotdogs to be the best ones you've ever eaten. Since we've opened our doors, the “Hotdog Brothers” hotdog has been one of our top sellers.
We make our famous hot dogs in our very own butcher shop in Black Mountain every week using only pasture-raised beef and pork from our local farmers and absolutely no fillers or other funny stuff.
To celebrate our "new and improved" Foothills hotdogs we're giving away 100 FREE HOTDOGS on Saturday, November 20th from 12p-6p (or while supplies last) at our Butcher Bar in Black Mountain. No purchase necessary (but they do pair great with a local beer, just sayin'.) Join us and bring your family and friends as we celebrate our community and thank our locals, whom we've had the pleasure of serving these many years. Enjoy one hot dog per person, while they last!
