Good Morning, Friends...

Skillet Brownie & The Post-Food Industry Life of a Local Chef

GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS…

Got that snow. Here in Downtown Asheville we got about 5 or 6 inches of the fluffy white stuff, maybe more. I LOVE IT!!! We got out there, took a little walk in it, and Dawn even made a snow angel! I made sure my bird and squirrel friends had plenty to eat all day. We had biscuits and honey and my mom’s house, and she sent us home with some of her awesome home made bread. Later on, I made shrimp tacos for dinner, using frozen shrimp from Mother Ocean Market, and adding arugula, pickled chow chow from DJ’s Pickles and Kewpie mayonnaise. Yom.

THE END OF $10 RAMEN NIGHT

The cliche, "All good things must come to an end" seems appropriate for this one.

At this point none of us are blind to the fact that cost of goods and labor have been increasing over the past two years. We, like most other places, are not insulated from those increases. Therefore, starting in February, there will be no more Tuesday $10 ramen night.

Over the last year, we have rolled out a variety of different promotions to show our thanks to you, our loyal base. Those will not change. However, we would like to replace ramen night with something new and fresh and invite you to reach out with ideas. Whatever comes next will be a direct result of our conversation with you. For us, the unknown is exciting and we're looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Email us your ideas!

THE RECOMMEND

Dawn and I met two of our friends at Smoky Park Supper Club over the weekend, and enjoyed an excellent meal together. At the end of the meal, as expected, our server asked if we’d like dessert. There was some grumbling and moaning about being full, but int he end we decided to share the skillet brownie a la mode. Let’s face facts: Dessert in some of the best restaurant sin town can be a little disappointing, so I set my expectations of “meh” before I tucked in. Holy moly, Y’all. It. Was. Awesome! Crispy on the edges, molten in the middle, hotter than Hell, with a cold, melty ball of house made ice cream on top, it was chocolatey, vanilla-y, and tasty AF! Recommend.

LAST WEEK ON FACEBOOK

Speaking of dessert, last week I featured the flan from Little Chango as my “Recommend,” it’s excellent in my opinion! I also loved the two arepas I ordered, and featured them on Facebook…
