Dawn made a super traditional Boston Cream Pie for my birthday. Even though I’m from Boston, and it’s one of my fave things in the world, I had never had one done in the original style before. The toasted almonds on the sides, for example, are OG to the dessert’s conception, but this is the first time I’d ever had them.
So, the big question plaguing humanity: Why is this cake called a pie?!?
Easy: Because apparently back in the day the two terms were almost interchangeable and this was considered more of a “cream pie” than a cake. Over the decades, our contemporary take on Boston Cream Pie has made it dryer, and more cake-like than its antecedents.
I loved this old school version, thank you, Dawn Roe!!!
